Property worth millions lost as fire guts Hoima school dormitory
This marks the second fire incident at Hoima Town Mosque Primary School, following a similar dormitory fire in February 2023.

Hoima: Property worth millions of Uganda shillings has been destroyed after a fire gutted a dormitory at Hoima Town Mosque Primary School on Tuesday morning.
The fire, whose cause is still under investigation, broke out around 11:00 AM in a storied building under construction that houses dormitories, the school mosque, and administrative offices.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as learners were in their classrooms sitting for exams at the time of the incident. However, personal belongings including mattresses, metallic deckers, suitcases containing books, clothes, food, and drinks were all destroyed in the blaze.
Residents who quickly responded to the emergency managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. They used sand and water to douse the flames and helped evacuate property from nearby structures.
Sharrif Ayebare, a local resident who assisted in extinguishing the fire, recounted that only the school matron was present in the dormitory when smoke was first noticed.
Following a closed-door meeting involving police officials, Resident City Commissioners (RCCs), school administration, and city school inspectors, Hoima East Division Assistant RCC, Barnabas Tugume, announced that the school would suspend operations for the rest of the week.
Caroline Nyamahunge, the Hoima City Inspector of Schools, urged the public to remain calm, assuring them that thorough investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire.
School administrators declined to speak to the press, stating they would issue a statement once the situation is under control.
Julius Allan Hakiza, spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police, confirmed the incident and reiterated that investigations are ongoing.
