Bunyoro Chief Prince calls for funds to support King Iguru’s treatment
Mugenyi also criticized some Babiito for continuing to support Prime Minister Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga, whose tenure he said expired two years ago.
Hoima: The Chief Prince of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Engineer Fred Mugenyi Rucunya, has called for urgent financial support to facilitate the specialized treatment of the kingdom’s King, Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I.
Mugenyi made the call on Sunday during a meeting of Ababito clan members and elders held at the Cultural Centre in Hoima City.
He said the King’s health condition is worsening and requires specialized medical attention.
Mugenyi said the recent death of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV should serve as a reminder to cultural institutions to prioritize the health and welfare of their leaders.
He said many people, including government officials, are willing to support the King’s treatment, but efforts have been hampered by the lack of recognized leadership in Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom for more than two years.

Many ethnic groups want to break away from Bunyoro, including the Bagangaizi, Bachope and Bagungu, because of the poor leadership,” he said.
Mugenyi also criticized some Babiito for continuing to support Prime Minister Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga, whose tenure he said expired two years ago.
“How can you be a prime minister without ministers? Many people, including religious leaders, have asked him to step aside since his term expired, but he has declined,” he said.
Mugenyi said the continued leadership disagreements are weakening the kingdom and contributing to divisions among its people.
He called for cooperation among clan leaders, elders, government and other stakeholders to resolve the leadership crisis and restore stability in the institution.
Meanwhile, Mugenyi said he has started restructuring the kingdom’s leadership and will announce new members of the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Parliament next Wednesday.
He said the appointments are intended to rebuild Orukurato and establish a functional leadership structure that can serve the people of Bunyoro.
