Kitgum to relocate bus park formally this weekend
"This process ensures continuity for affected vendors and traders, giving them a secure and accessible place to continue operations," Mr. Ocitti noted.

Kitgum: Kitgum Municipality, in a significant step toward urban redevelopment, has scheduled Sunday, 8th June 2025 as the official date for the operational launch of the new bus park at Kitgum Airfield.
The move precedes the planned demolition and redevelopment of the old Kitgum Bus Park.
According to Mr. Ocitti Patrick Ochan, the Deputy Town Clerk of Kitgum Municipality, private developers who previously operated at the old bus park began a self-demolition phase from 1st to 7th June 2025. This week-long window has allowed them to dismantle structural fittings, such as doors and windows, in preparation for the municipality’s takeover.
Mr. Ocitti explained that the Kitgum Municipal Council will give priority space allocation at the new bus park to the KTODA management and bus owners for administrative and operational offices.
Remaining spaces will be allocated exclusively to business operators relocating from the former bus park particularly those who were unable to secure stalls at the Kitgum Main Market or other designated trading zones. The relocation process formally began on Thursday, 5th June 2025.
“This process ensures continuity for affected vendors and traders, giving them a secure and accessible place to continue operations,” Mr. Ocitti noted.
Demolition of the old bus park structures is scheduled to commence immediately after the relocation is finalized on Sunday, 8th June 2025. The move-in at the new location is already underway, with many businesses transferring operations to the Kitgum Airfield site.
A pre-launch site tour and preparatory meeting involving bus operators and municipal officials will be held prior to Sunday to ensure a smooth transition. Bus loading and operational services at the new site are expected to begin the same day.
While space at the new park will first be allocated to affected traders and operators, former private developers from the old Kitgum Bus Park may also be considered if additional space becomes available, Mr. Ocitti added.
This relocation marks a key milestone in Kitgum’s urban planning strategy aimed at improving infrastructure, decongesting the central business area, and modernizing public transportation services.
The new bus park is expected to offer better facilities, safety, and convenience for both passengers and operators.
