Walyaula abandons NRM bid for Mbale LC5 Chairmanship
Regardless of the path, he is determined to move forward with his bid for LC5 Chairperson and has urged his supporters to remain steadfast.

Mbale: In a surprising political turn, Emmanuel Walyaula, a renowned humanitarian and human rights advocate, has announced his withdrawal from the race for Mbale District LC5 Chairman under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party ticket.
The announcement has sent ripples across the political landscape, with many viewing it as a bold and principled stand that underscores Walyaula’s commitment to integrity and grassroots-driven leadership.
“Using a party that has been in power for so long without addressing the citizens’ needs would be a disqualification of my values,” Walyaula stated during a press briefing.
Walyaula, who has been a supporter of the NRM party for the past seven years dating back to his high school and university days has grown increasingly disillusioned with the ruling party.
His departure, he says, is grounded in extensive consultations, research, and the overwhelming feedback from youths and constituents who felt betrayed by his earlier decision to contest under the NRM banner.
A fierce critic of corruption, nepotism, and poor service delivery in Mbale District, Walyaula emphasized that remaining under the NRM ticket would have compromised his values and credibility among the people he seeks to serve.
“The time for change is now. We must rise above partisan politics and work towards a brighter future for all Ugandans,” he declared.
While he has not yet officially declared his new political vehicle, Walyaula confirmed that he will soon unveil either a new party affiliation or run as an independent candidate.
Regardless of the path, he is determined to move forward with his bid for LC5 Chairperson and has urged his supporters to remain steadfast.
Political analysts say Walyaula’s exit from the NRM reflects a growing sentiment among youth who feel sidelined by traditional party politics. His courageous break from the establishment has earned him praise from many, positioning him as a rising voice for change in the region.
As the 2026 general elections draw nearer, all eyes will be on Walyaula to see if his grassroots appeal and message of reform can resonate widely enough to challenge entrenched political structures.
