A targeted search operation was carried out by investigators at the suspect’s residence in the presence of family members and local leaders.

Arua: Arua City Police have recovered a stolen firearm following a security breach in Kamule Ward, Nyaru Cell, located in Ayivu East Division. The weapon, identified by serial number PSOBO19574, was retrieved after police received actionable intelligence from the area’s Local Council leadership.

The incident is recorded under Case Reference: Ayivu East SD, REF 42/05/06/2025.

According to preliminary police reports, a person of interest identified as Mr. Edema had recently traveled from Kampala to Arua to attend a family burial. During his stay, he is alleged to have unlawfully acquired a pistol, prompting concern from residents and authorities.

Law enforcement launched a follow-up investigation, detaining several individuals for interrogation in connection to the theft. However, the primary suspect reportedly fled his residence shortly after the incident came to light.

Family members, noticing his sudden disappearance, alerted the Local Council II (LC2) Chairman, who then coordinated with police authorities.

A targeted search operation was carried out by investigators at the suspect’s residence in the presence of family members and local leaders.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Collins Asea, the West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect was found in unlawful possession of the stolen firearm during the operation.

“The recovered weapon, bearing serial number PSOBO19574, was found without a magazine and ammunition. It has since been seized and registered as evidence in the ongoing investigation,” SP Asea confirmed.

Despite the recovery of the firearm, the suspect managed to evade arrest and is currently at large.

Police have urged members of the public to report any information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspect.

“We call upon anyone with credible leads to cooperate with law enforcement. Public vigilance is key in ensuring community safety,” SP Asea added.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the full scope and motive behind the incident, as well as to determine whether other individuals may be involved.
