Six remanded over murder of Kagadi Parish Chief
The suspects were not allowed to take a plea because the Grade One Magistrate’s Court lacks jurisdiction to try murder cases, which are handled by the High Court.

Kagadi: Six suspects have been remanded to Mambugu Government Prison over the alleged murder of Bugwara Parish Chief Ediger Kunihira and aggravated robbery in Kagadi District.
The suspects appeared before Kagadi Grade One Magistrate Edward Kayukyi, who remanded them until November 27, 2026, when the case is expected to return to court.
The accused are Basiima Matiya, Mujuni Lawrence, Kwikiriza Mujuni, Isingoma Joseph, Businge John and Twesige Sam, all residents of Kagadi Town Council.
Prosecution alleges that the six murdered Kunihira on October 9, 2026, and stole his smartphone valued at 1.5 million shillings.
The suspects were not allowed to take a plea because the Grade One Magistrate’s Court lacks jurisdiction to try murder cases, which are handled by the High Court.
Kunihira served as the parish chief of Bugwara Parish in Kicucura Sub-County, Kagadi District. He was also a son of former Kibaale District Chairperson Peter Amara.
The case is scheduled to return to court on November 27, 2026, as the legal process continues.
The suspects remain accused persons, and the allegations against them have not been proven in court.
