Kitgum bus, taxi park operators inducted ahead of relocation to temporary site

The new modern facility is expected to enhance transportation services within the municipality and cater to growing commuter needs.

Kitgum: Kitgum Municipal Council on Thursday inducted bus and taxi park operators in preparation for their relocation from the current Kitgum Bus Park to a newly designated temporary site at the Kitgum Airfield.

The induction follows a stakeholder engagement and site inspection involving municipal officials, transport operators, and park owners.

According to Municipality Communication Officer Angee Sarah, the engagement focused on streamlining the relocation process, which precedes the scheduled demolition of the old park to pave the way for the construction of a modern transport facility.

Key recommendations from the site inspection include; ground levelling, fencing of the new premises, demolition of existing structures, connection to water and electricity services and opening and clearing of entrance and exit routes.

Municipality Engineer Abonga Alfred Alexis affirmed that these preparatory activities would be expedited.

He noted that the temporary site formerly used as a campsite by China State Construction Company during the construction of the Kitgum Main Market already possesses many of the essential utilities.

The current Kitgum Bus and Taxi Park is set to be demolished between June 1st and June 7th, 2025, marking the beginning of a major infrastructure upgrade.

The new modern facility is expected to enhance transportation services within the municipality and cater to growing commuter needs.
