Kabarole DRDC Benuza advocates for boy child as CSOs champion youth entrepreneurship
“Young people should take advantage of such opportunities to improve their livelihoods and contribute to household incomes,” she emphasized.

Kabarole: The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kabarole, Jane Benuza Ateenyi, has called on civil society organisations in the district to intensify advocacy for the well-being of the boy child, warning that neglecting boys could undermine efforts to build stable and peaceful communities.
Benuza noted that while significant progress has been made in supporting the girl child, boys are increasingly being left without adequate guidance and support systems. She made the remarks on Tuesday during a field visit organised by Imagine Her, a civil society organisation operating in Kabarole District that supports young entrepreneurs engaged in various income-generating ventures.
During the visit, Benuza commended Brenda Tusiime, a local agro-processor based in Karago Ward, North Division in Fort Portal, for her outstanding contribution to job creation and value addition. Tusiime, the director of MEMA Agro-Organic Processors, employs about 30 people across farms in Kabarole District and generates between UGX 40–48 million annually.
Impressed by her work, Benuza urged the youth to embrace farming, noting that entrepreneurs like Tusiime have already created a ready market for agricultural produce.
“Young people should take advantage of such opportunities to improve their livelihoods and contribute to household incomes,” she emphasized.
The team also visited a piggery project owned by David Ahaisibwe in Kikonge Cell, Busaiga Parish, Harugongo Sub-county. Ahaisibwe shared that he specializes in pig fattening, earning an average monthly income of about UGX 3 million. He called on fellow youth to undergo a mindset change and embrace agriculture as a viable and profitable venture. His enterprise was highlighted as a model of how small-scale farming can yield consistent income when managed well.
Speaking during the same visit, Restatuta Mboijana, the Female District Councillor for Busoro Town Council and Secretary for Works, who represented District Chairperson Richard Rwabuhinga, expressed optimism that agriculture has the potential to transform livelihoods if adequately supported. She urged government to invest in establishing agro-industries to enhance value addition and expand market access for farmers.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for Kabarole, Marvin Mugarra, encouraged farmers to form partnerships with existing agro-processors to maximize the value of their produce.
He reiterated the district’s commitment to supporting organised farmer groups and youth-led initiatives, noting that collaboration remains key to improving incomes and fostering sustainable development.
The field visit underscored the critical role of organisations like Imagine Her in empowering youth and promoting inclusive development, while also highlighting the need for balanced social support systems that cater to both boys and girls.
