Man kills wife in domestic brawl in Masindi

Masindi: Police in Masindi District have arrested a 45-year-old man on allegations of murdering his 40-year-old partner following a suspected domestic violence incident in Bwijanga Sub-county.
The incident occurred on September 6, 2026, at Kyanga Village, Ntooma Parish, Bwijanga Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as Angela Atuhura, a resident of Kyanga Village, while the suspect is Bogere Kasanda, a casual labourer who was reportedly cohabiting with the deceased.
According to Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional CLO and Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, the two had lived together for about one year at a farm in Kyanga Village, where the suspect had reportedly been employed to look after pigs belonging to his employer.
Police investigations indicate that the couple had allegedly experienced repeated domestic disputes, with some of their disagreements previously being handled by local leaders in Kyanga Village.
According to preliminary findings, Kasanda reportedly went to Kyanga Trading Centre at around 10am on September 6 looking for a buyer for a pig.
He allegedly approached one of the residents seeking Shs250,000 for transport and reportedly expressed his intention to leave the area.
Police say the resident became suspicious after the suspect allegedly revealed that his wife had died at their home.
The matter was reportedly brought to the attention of the suspect’s employer and local defence leaders, who proceeded to the residence where Atuhura was found dead.
“It was established that the two had been having domestic violence and were fighting severely, and their matters were being handled by the area chairman of Kyanga Village,” Mugisa states.
The suspect was subsequently arrested and handed over to police.
A team comprising homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and other police personnel from Bwijanga and Masindi Police Stations visited and documented the scene.
Mugisa said they also recovered a black gumboot with suspected blood stains, which has been retained as an exhibit to assist with investigations.
The body of the deceased was retrieved from the scene and taken to Masindi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police say statements have been recorded from relevant witnesses as investigations continue.
The case has been registered at Masindi Central Police Station under CRB 941/2026, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
