Civil servants warned on wealth declaration compliance
Only 30 percent of civil servants have declared their assets, with just three days remaining before the nationwide exercise closes,” she said.
Kabale: The Deputy Inspector General of Government, Patricia Achan Okiria, has directed all government civil servants in Greater Kabale to comply with the ongoing mandatory wealth declaration exercise or face penalties.
The nationwide exercise, which began on April 1, will end on April 30, 2026.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 during a meeting with public officers at Kabale Rukiiko Hall at the district headquarters, Dr. Achan Okiria emphasized that the exercise is crucial in reducing corruption in public service and strengthening public trust. She warned that non-compliance will not be tolerated.
She said every public officer must disclose all sources of income, including salaries, allowances, rental income, business earnings, farming income, and income from other side jobs.
Dr. Achan explained that under the Leadership Code Act, leaders are required to declare their assets and liabilities every two years in March, while Section 5 of the law requires public officers to submit declarations of income, assets, and liabilities to the Inspectorate of Government every five years in April.
She noted that many civil servants face challenges during the declaration process, including forgetting login credentials such as email addresses and phone numbers. She advised them to seek assistance from district focal persons to complete the process.
According to Dr. Achan, only 30 percent of civil servants in Kabale District have declared their assets, with just three days remaining before the exercise closes. “Only 30 percent of civil servants have declared their assets, with just three days remaining before the nationwide exercise closes,” she said.
She warned that public servants who fail to comply risk penalties, including fines, cautions, or demotion.
Meanwhile, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Katamba, has requested an extension of the declaration exercise period to allow more public servants to comply, noting that only a few days remain while many are yet to declare their assets.
“The district will continue to encourage all public servants to declare their wealth,” he added.
