Kassanda man found dead in pit latrine in suspected land dispute

“The circumstances surrounding the position of the deceased’s neck raised suspicion that he may have been strangled,” Kigozi said.

Kassanda: Police in Kassanda District have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 33-year-old man whose body was found in a pit latrine in Kitagonerwa Village, Bweyongedde Parish, Kalwana Sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Godfrey Mwesige, a resident of the area.

According to Lameck Kigozi, the Wamala Region Police spokesperson, the incident was reported at Kikandwa Police Station on August 28, 2026, at about 10:50 a.m. by Mwesige’s mother, Nakazibwe Faith.

Kigozi said that a day before the body was discovered, Nakazibwe and her son had reported receiving threats to the Kitagonerwa LC1 chairperson following a disagreement involving three men identified as Badrru Mukuye, Dafiki and Turyagyenda.

Police said the dispute was reportedly connected to a family land wrangle in which Kasaawe, a brother to the deceased, allegedly wanted to obtain his share of the family land and sell it to Mukuye Badru, against the wishes of their mother and Mwesige.

“The circumstances surrounding the position of the deceased’s neck raised suspicion that he may have been strangled,” Kigozi said.

He added that the exact cause of death would be established through a postmortem examination.

Police homicide officers visited and processed the scene before recording statements from witnesses. The deceased’s body was later conveyed to Kassanda Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The suspects remain at large as investigations continue.

Kigozi appealed to members of the public to use lawful channels to resolve land disputes instead of resorting to violence.

“Police are pursuing the suspects to ensure that anyone found responsible for the death is arrested and brought to justice,” Kigozi said.
