Kikuube: Kikuube District is set to bring together more than 1,000 young people for a District Youth Day celebration aimed at promoting skills development, entrepreneurship, innovation and youth participation in community development.

The event, organised by Kikuube District Local Government in partnership with the District Youth Council, will be held at Sertito Winyi Playground in Kiziranfumbi under the theme, “Empowering Youth for a Brighter Tomorrow.”

The celebration is expected to provide a platform for young people from across the district to showcase their talents, exchange ideas, connect with potential opportunities and explore alternative sources of income amid challenges of unemployment and limited access to business opportunities.

A member of the organising committee said preparations were progressing well, with mobilisation activities underway across the district.

“Everything is set. We have secured the playground, invited cultural groups, and mobilised youth from all sub-counties. This will be a joyful and memorable day for our young people,” the committee member said.

The programme will feature traditional Banyoro dances, drama performances, football and netball competitions, alongside exhibitions showcasing youth-led initiatives in information and communication technology, tailoring, agribusiness and other entrepreneurial ventures.

Organisers have also planned a free health camp offering medical check-ups and counselling services, as well as motivational talks by young entrepreneurs from the Bunyoro sub-region.

The entrepreneurs are expected to share their experiences and encourage participants to embrace innovation, self-employment and business creation as ways of improving their livelihoods and creating employment for others.

District and national leaders, including the district chairperson, Resident District Commissioner and representatives from the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, are expected to attend.

Their participation is expected to provide an opportunity for young people to engage with leaders, raise concerns affecting their communities and discuss possible interventions to improve access to skills training, business opportunities and leadership positions.

The choice of Kiziranfumbi as the host venue has also raised expectations among local residents and business operators, who anticipate increased commercial activity from the gathering.

Local vendors and service providers are expected to benefit from the arrival of participants and other visitors attending the celebration.

Youth leaders have called on young people from all parts of Kikuube to attend and actively participate in the activities, urging them to use the gathering to build networks, discover opportunities and strengthen their contribution to district development.

The programme is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., with free entry.

For Kikuube District, the celebration is expected to go beyond entertainment by creating a platform for young people to demonstrate their potential and engage with stakeholders on opportunities for economic empowerment.
