Walyaula shifts political ambitions to East African Legislative Assembly
Walyaula has pledged to champion legislation that strengthens Uganda's voice within the East African Community while ensuring that integration efforts address the everyday challenges faced by citizens.
Kampala: Rising politician Emmanuel Walyaula has officially declared his intention to contest for a position as Uganda’s representative in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), marking a new chapter in his political journey.
Walyaula, who recently contested for the position of LC5 Chairperson for Mbale District during the 2025–2026 elections but was unsuccessful, says the setback has inspired him to pursue a broader platform of leadership at the regional level.
Speaking while announcing his bid, Walyaula described his previous electoral loss as a redirection rather than a failure, emphasizing his determination to continue serving Ugandans and advancing their interests within the East African Community.
Running under the banner of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Walyaula says his campaign will focus on youth empowerment, quality education, economic growth, healthcare access, security, and good governance. He argues that East African integration should translate into tangible benefits such as employment opportunities for young people, easier cross-border trade, digital innovation, climate action, and stronger regional cooperation.
Walyaula has pledged to champion legislation that strengthens Uganda’s voice within the East African Community while ensuring that integration efforts address the everyday challenges faced by citizens.
The youthful politician has also expressed his ambition to become the first youth representative to hold the position, saying the region requires bold and informed young leaders who understand the realities of youth unemployment, educational challenges, and barriers to trade.

“Our region needs young, bold and informed leaders at the table,” Walyaula said. “I bring fresh ideas, energy and a commitment to ensure East African integration delivers real benefits to every Ugandan, from Mbale to Moyo.”
Using the slogan “For God and My Country,” Walyaula says his leadership philosophy is rooted in integrity, patriotism and service. He has called on Ugandans, particularly young people, to support his bid and help place youth leadership at the forefront of East African decision-making.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, Walyaula’s entry into the EALA race adds a youthful voice to the conversation on regional integration and Uganda’s representation within the East African Community.
