Two injured in Kitgum accident shortly after hospital discharge

Both Okot and Lakot sustained critical injuries and were immediately rushed to Kitgum General Hospital for emergency treatment.

Kitgum: Two individuals were critically injured in a road accident along Uhuru Drive in Kitgum Municipality on Saturday, June 21, 2025, shortly after one of them was discharged from the hospital.

The victims have been identified as Okot Patrick ,32, a boda boda rider operating motorcycle UEY 524G, and Lakot Jennifer ,25, a recently discharged patient. Both are residents of Paluda, Lamwo District.

According to Inspector of Police (IP) Joe Oloya, spokesperson for the Aswa East Region, the accident occurred at around 1:00 PM when a boda boda joined the main road from the hospital side without checking for oncoming traffic.

A vehicle with registration number UA 819AG, which was traveling toward Kampala, collided with the motorcycle in a side-impact crash.

“Preliminary investigations indicate reckless riding by the motorcyclist, who failed to observe proper traffic precautions when merging onto the main road,” said IP Oloya.

Both Okot and Lakot sustained critical injuries and were immediately rushed to Kitgum General Hospital for emergency treatment.

The motorcycle and vehicle involved have been impounded and are being held at Kitgum Central Police Station, pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Police investigations are currently ongoing.

IP Oloya called on all road users to strictly observe traffic regulations, especially when entering main roads, noting that caution can prevent accidents of this nature.
