Giramia launches campaigns for Zombo District Woman MP Seat

On healthcare, she noted the lack of a fully functional general hospital in the district as a major concern.

Zombo: The Aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Zombo District, Giramia Fiona, officially launched her campaign manifesto on Saturday afternoon in Paidha, outlining a bold agenda focused on education, healthcare, women empowerment, and infrastructure development.

The launch began with a vibrant procession from Goli through the streets of Paidha town, as jubilant supporters welcomed her return from the NRM Secretariat, where she had completed her nomination.

During the event, which included dedication prayers, Giramia emphasized that revamping education for both boys and girls is her top priority.

“Many learners have dropped out of school due to various challenges, and they lack someone to advocate for them,” she said. “The government has built a skilling centre in Zombo, but we need more at the sub-county level so that every school dropout can access vocational training and pursue a life-sustaining course.”

Giramia also pledged to enhance women’s financial literacy and ensure that every village in Zombo has a savings and credit cooperative (SACCO) to empower women economically.

On healthcare, she noted the lack of a fully functional general hospital in the district as a major concern.

“Patients wait long hours to get blood from Nebbi or Arua. I will lobby for a general hospital in Zombo to ease the burden on our people.”

Addressing poor infrastructure, Giramia described the dilapidated road network as a barrier to Zombo’s potential.

“Zombo is the food basket of West Nile, but farmers can’t access markets due to terrible roads. We’ve lost many businesspeople to road accidents. The leaders we’ve sent haven’t spoken up. It’s time I speak for you.”

At the same event, clan elders officially endorsed Giramia Fiona for the Woman MP seat an endorsement she described as humbling and motivating.

The Zombo Woman MP race has become one of the most competitive in the district’s history since its creation in 2009, attracting several contenders including incumbent Esther Afoyochan, Giramia Tasha, Topista Acamfua, and others.
