Tension in Kagadi as residents accuse man of witchcraft

She also warned residents not to take the law into their own hands, encouraging them to follow proper legal and administrative channels.

Kagadi: Tension is rising in Nsambya B, Kihayura Parish, in Kagadi Sub-county, as residents issue a stern ultimatum to a fellow community member, Vincent Kirabo, demanding he repent for alleged witchcraft and satanic practices or face expulsion.

The accusations were raised during a heated security meeting held Tuesday evening at the home of local chairperson John Kasilye, and chaired by Kagadi Sub-county LCIII Chairperson Birungi Matia.

The meeting was prompted by a recent incident involving Maria Kiiza, who claimed that her daughter and grandchild fell mysteriously ill, repeatedly calling out Kirabo’s name.

Kiiza accused Kirabo, her former son-in-law, of violent behavior since separating from her daughter and of bewitching community members.

Residents have given Kirabo a one-week deadline to bring in intercessors (abasabi) for prayer and spiritual cleansing.

In response, Kirabo denied any involvement in witchcraft, attributing the tensions to ongoing land disputes with several families. He expressed a willingness to reconcile and agreed to invite pastors to pray at his home.

Judith Natukunda, the Parish Chief of Kihayura, confirmed receiving several complaints against Kirabo and urged him to seek repentance.

She also warned residents not to take the law into their own hands, encouraging them to follow proper legal and administrative channels.

Sub-county Chairperson Birungi Matia reaffirmed the security team’s commitment to maintaining peace and urged residents to remain calm while awaiting the scheduled spiritual intervention. A final decision on Kirabo’s fate is expected in the coming days.
