President Museveni mourns CID Director Magambo’s son

He thanked the President for continuously standing with officers during difficult moments.

Masindi: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has condoled with the family of Tom Magambo following the death of his son, Timothy Muganzi Magambo.

Muganzi died at the age of 18 in New York on May 16, 2026 after drowning in a swimming pool. He was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kisarabwire Cell, Karujubu Division in Masindi after a requiem service held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Masindi town on Thursday afternoon.

The President’s condolence message was delivered by Balaam Barugahara, the Minister for Local Government. In the message, President Museveni said he received news of Muganzi’s death with profound sadness and conveyed condolences on behalf of his family and the country to Major Magambo’s family.

Pastor Robert Kayanja of Miracle Centre Cathedral applauded Major Magambo for raising a disciplined child and encouraged the family to establish a foundation in remembrance of Muganzi to preserve his legacy.

President Museveni contributed Shs30 million towards burial expenses and Shs10 million to support the proposed foundation in commemoration of Muganzi.

Abbas Byakagaba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) said the Uganda Police Force would support and contribute to the foundation. He thanked the President for continuously standing with officers during difficult moments.

Speaking on behalf of the UPDF, Lt. Gen. James Mugira, Member of Parliament representing UPDF said the security agencies are one family and described Muganzi’s death as a loss to the entire security fraternity.

Jonathan Magambo, the deceased’s brother, revealed that the family has already started a website to support the foundation in memory of Muganzi.

Caroline Magambo, the deceased’s mother, said the foundation would focus on mobilising resources to support vulnerable members of the community.

In his remarks, Major Tom Magambo, the Director CID appreciated mourners for standing with his family during the difficult period.

During his sermon, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Byaruhanga, the Parish Priest of St. Jude Parish, said Muganzi died at a time when the family looked to him with great hope, noting that life can sometimes be unfair.

After the requiem service, the body of Timothy Muganzi Magambo was conveyed to Kisarabwire Cell for burial.
