Man suspected of poisoning found dead in rented room
He further alleged that the couple had reportedly been experiencing domestic misunderstandings linked to accusations of infidelity.
Ntungamo: Police in Ntungamo District are investigating circumstances under which a 20-year-old man suspected to have died of poisoning was found dead in his rented room in Rubaare Town Council, Ntungamo district.
The deceased has been identified as Benson Twinamatsiko, a builder by profession and a resident of Rubaare II Cell, Kagango Ward in Rubaare Town Council. He originally hailed from Rwakigaju Cell, Kazindiro Parish, Rujumbura County in Rukungiri District.
According to the LC I Chairperson of Rubaare II Cell, Mr. Milton Ndebesa, Twinamatsiko was married to Joanita Nyakato, commonly known as Mutoni, a Rwandan national in her 20s.
Ndebesa told this publication that the deceased is suspected to have died from poisoning during the night between Monday and Tuesday. He explained that the deceased’s wife raised an alarm to neighbours at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, informing them that her husband had died.
He further alleged that the couple had reportedly been experiencing domestic misunderstandings linked to accusations of infidelity.
The deceased’s elder sister, Ms. Patience Akatukunda, said her brother woke up normally on Monday and went to work as usual before returning home in the evening with food which they prepared for supper.
Akatukunda added that on Tuesday at around 3:00 p.m., the deceased’s wife called one of the neighbours and informed her that Twinamatsiko had died after allegedly taking rat poison tablets.
Although Nyakato denied any involvement in her husband’s death, some residents alleged that she could have orchestrated the incident.
Police detectives from Rubaare Town Council visited the scene of crime, documented evidence, and recorded statements from witnesses.
A postmortem examination was conducted at the scene by Dr. Alex Aryahebwa from Rubaare Health Centre IV, who confirmed that the deceased died of poisoning.
However, the doctor noted that the exact poison used could not immediately be identified. Body samples were collected and will be taken to Mulago Hospital for further toxicology analysis to establish the exact substance involved.
The body was later handed over to relatives for burial arrangements as investigations continue.
