Bunyoro Kingdom donates nine cattle to Tooro Kingdom for King Oyo’s funeral

Fort Portal: Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has donated nine head of cattle to support the funeral arrangements for the late King of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV.
The cattle were handed over to the Chief Prince of Tooro Kingdom, Charles Kayondo Kamurasi, at Karuzika Palace in Kabudaire, Fort Portal City, by a Bunyoro delegation led by the Chief Prince, Engineer Fred Mugenyi Ruchunya, also known as Okwiri.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ruchunya urged the people of Tooro to remain calm and united as the kingdom prepares to mourn and transition following the death of King Oyo.
He cautioned Tooro subjects against allowing competing voices over the succession to divide the kingdom, stressing that there will ultimately be only one king. “I want to urge the people of Tooro to remain calm during this trying moment and avoid voices that can create divisions over who should succeed King Oyo.”
Ruchunya further called on Batooro and members of the wider Babiito royal family to respect the role of the Musuuga during the transition period before a new king is enthroned.
He said once a successor is identified, all subjects should unite behind the new king regardless of their individual preferences.
The Bunyoro Chief Prince also warned that prolonged disagreements over succession could weaken the cultural institution at a time when it is mourning its monarch.
Responding to the Bunyoro delegation, Tooro Chief Prince Charles Kayondo Kamurasi described Bunyoro and Tooro as closely related cultural institutions because of their shared Babiito royal heritage.
Kamurasi described the two kingdoms as “twins,” noting that Tooro emerged from Bunyoro about two centuries ago.
He also condemned what he described as ongoing conflicts within Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, calling for unity among the kingdom’s subjects.
King Oyo’s death has left Tooro without a reigning monarch and triggered preparations for the succession of the throne. The succession process is yet to be fully made public, although Kamurasi has emerged as a key figure in the transition in his role as head of the Babiito royal clan.
