Kitgum registers suspected cholera case
Health authorities have placed the boy’s family members under close surveillance, although none of them have shown symptoms so far.

Kitgum: Health officials in Kitgum District are on high alert following the registration of a suspected cholera case at Kitgum General Hospital, sparking renewed concerns about potential outbreaks in the region.
According to Mr. Ojok Thomas, the Hospital Administrator, the patient, a 10-year-old boy from Lobene East Village, Akwang Subcounty, tested positive using a Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT).
However, Ojok emphasized that this test is not confirmatory, and further laboratory analysis is required to validate the result.
“We are treating the case with caution. The child is stable and receiving medical care,” Ojok stated on Monday morning.
Health authorities have placed the boy’s family members under close surveillance, although none of them have shown symptoms so far. This is a precautionary step to monitor any possible spread of the infection within the household.
Ojok urged the community to remain vigilant and promptly report any individuals showing signs of cholera, including severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration, to the nearest health facility.
“Early detection and response are critical in preventing a wider outbreak,” he added.
The health department is expected to step up community awareness and sanitation monitoring efforts in the coming days.
