Three arrested for stealing government food in Kiryandongo

Hundreds of food sachets have been recovered from the suspects.

Kiryandongo: Police in Kiryandongo district are holding three suspects for allegedly stealing food for Kiryandongo Hospital in Kiryandongo district.

Akweteireho Jonathan, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kiryandongo, has identified the suspects as Kizito Sam, Rukalema John, the hospital cleaners, and Nicodemus Ssenyonjo, the same hospital askari.

Akweteireho says the suspects were arrested on Monday, February 19, 2024, following a police tipoff, and they were found in possession of a therapeutic food called Mana, which is given to children suffering from severe malnutrition.

He explained that the hospital asked Askari Nicodemus Ssenyonjo, who was found with the suspects in the hospital laundry quickly, told police how he had arrested them with evidence.

Minutes later, after a quick search into their residences, the same askari was found locked into his house with another key and helped another suspect Nalongo Poola to escape.

Akweteireho asserts that because it was dark and she couldn’t be followed, Ssenyonjo was arrested and now in custody as investigations continue about the entire food chain in the hospital.

Hundreds of food sachets have been recovered from the suspects.
