Kikuube residents resort to community work over poor roads

They accused the government of neglect for about 15 years.

Kikuube: Irked by the appalling state of roads, residents of Kikuube district have resorted to community works to fix them.

Residents of Kitaganya, Kinyamunungu, and Kicanga villages in Kabwoya Sub-County have taken the lead.

They have started community work on the Kitaganya-Kinyamunungu-KKicanga access road.

On Saturday, our reporter found a group of men, women, and children busy slashing and resealing potholes on the road.

They accused the government of neglect for about 15 years.

The local leaders say this has blocked residents from accessing the market centers, and instead, buyers who struggle to reach them end up cheating them.

The angry residents who also worked on Kabatobato Bridge have threatened to boycott the NRM membership update registration exercise if their road is not worked on immediately.

Meanwhile, the LC3 chairperson for Kabwoya subcounty, Twesige Mukoto Francis, called for calm, saying the subcounty has already secured 24 million shillings to start opening the Kitaganya-Kinyamunungu-Kicanga road.

He says work will start in a few weeks.

He has also implored residents to embrace the NRM Membership Update exercise in order to elect leaders to spearhead development.
