Kakumiro residents threaten to boycott upcoming elections over impassable road

Kakumiro: Residents of Kyakijuto Parish in Kisiita Sub-county, Kakumiro District, have expressed deep frustration over the deteriorated state of the Kyangota–Kyakijuto–Kyakuterekera road, which they say has become impassable.

According to locals, a grader passed through the area only once, leaving behind numerous potholes and worsening the road’s condition, making it difficult for them to transport goods and access essential services.

In protest, some residents uprooted poorly installed culverts in Kalama LCI, demanding immediate government intervention. They have vowed to boycott the forthcoming elections if the road is not repaired.

During a recent community confrontation, the residents voiced their dissatisfaction to district councilors Hon. Oliver Atuhaire and Hon. Gershom Kahinda, accusing them of failing to address transportation challenges in the area.

Kisiita Sub-county Chairperson Moses Twimukye confirmed that while the district initiated the road construction project, progress has stalled.

He called on Kakumiro District Chairperson Joseph Ssentayi Senkusu and Bugangaizi East MP Hon. Agaba Aisha Black to urgently intervene before the situation escalates further.

In response, Councilors Atuhaire and Kahinda urged residents to remain patient, assuring them that construction is ongoing and will be completed in due course.

Efforts to get comments from Hon. Agaba Aisha Black, who chairs the Kakumiro District Road Committee, and District Chairperson Joseph Ssentayi were unsuccessful, as both officials were unreachable by phone.
