Former Buliisa DFA chairperson joins race for Butiaba Town Council Mayorship

“Let us restore our town together. For God and my home  Butiaba Town Council,” he concluded.

Buliisa: Hon. Abib Businge, former Chairperson of the Buliisa District Football Association (DFA), has officially declared his bid for the Butiaba Town Council Mayorship in the upcoming local elections.

A well-known community leader and mobilizer, Businge hails from Magali Village in the Southern Ward of Butiaba Town Council. He is the son of Matongo Kagoro, the LC1 Chairperson of Mukibiro, and Angelina Naima Nyarabira.

Early leadership and education

Businge’s leadership roots trace back to his school days. While at Biiso War Memorial Secondary School (2006/07), he served as Head Prefect, Chairperson of the Scripture Union, and Chairperson of the Red Cross.

His leadership journey continued at Masindi High School in similar influential roles, earning him respect among peers and staff.

Following his studies, Businge was contracted by the Electoral Commission to serve as Subcounty Supervisor in Greater Butiaba for one and a half years. He later dedicated his time to volunteer work with community development organizations including RDP Uganda, ActionAid, and MIRAC.

Sports leadership and community support

A passionate advocate for sports and youth development, Businge rose to prominence as DFA Chairperson, where he played a key role in reviving Red Scorpion FC.

The club had collapsed under poor management, but under his leadership, and with support from Coach Munamasaka, it was successfully restored and handed back to the community. He also supported Bugoigo Leopard FC, helping it return to the regional football league.

Beyond the football pitch, Businge has been instrumental in supporting local livelihoods. He has actively assisted fishmongers in legal disputes, maintained strong working relations with security agencies, and played a critical role in helping victims during the Red Scorpion FC accident facilitating treatment from Kyangwali to Mulago Hospital, with backing from fellow leaders such as Hon. Norah Bigirwa and Hon. Allan Atugonza.

Campaign vision and priorities

Now contesting for the Butiaba Town Council Mayorship, Hon. Businge pledges to lead with transparency, unity, and a people-first agenda.

His proposed development priorities include; establishing a seed secondary school, relocating government and private schools to more spacious sites, constructing a Health Centre III close to the community, and building a modern market (auction) area.

Others include; developing sports grounds and town council headquarters, lobbying for improved service delivery and basic infrastructure, initiating youth livelihood programs, creating a fishermen’s fund to enhance fishing capacity and fostering better inter-departmental coordination and security relations.

Businge also envisions a transformed Butiaba Town with upgraded road networks, secure land tenure for residents especially in oil development zones and expanded financial literacy programs to empower households and small businesses.

“Butiaba Town Council is our shared responsibility. Once elected, I will serve everyone regardless of political preference. Let us end internal conflict and focus on real development,” Businge stated.

Current roles and political involvement

Hon. Abib Businge currently serves as the Coordinator for the Patriotic League of Uganda in Buliisa District. He was recently elected unopposed as the General Secretary of the NRM Entrepreneurs League in the district.

“Let us restore our town together. For God and my home  Butiaba Town Council,” he concluded.
