FDC nominates Jinja City candidates ahead of party primaries

She confirmed that nomination forms will be submitted to the party headquarters in Kampala, after which party primaries will determine the official flag bearers for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

Jinja: The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) electoral commission in Jinja City has successfully nominated several aspirants to contest for key political positions ahead of the party’s internal primaries.

Among the top contenders is Bernard Mbayo, the current Speaker of Jinja City Council, who has been nominated to vie for the Member of Parliament seat for Jinja South West Constituency. His nomination was confirmed on Wednesday evening, 18th June 2025, at the FDC offices located at Kama Oil, Milo Bridge, in Jinja City.

Mbayo expressed strong confidence in his candidacy, saying he is ready to face all opponents in the general election and believes he is best positioned to represent the people of Jinja South West.

“I am fully prepared for this race and committed to serving the people. I call upon all constituents to stand with me for a brighter and more accountable future,” he stated.

Also nominated was Nabukwasi Enid Petra Kauthara, who will contest for the Jinja City Woman MP seat. A known advocate for community empowerment and social justice, Nabukwasi pledged to champion women’s rights, youth development, and marginalized voices.

“I am thankful to the FDC for this opportunity. I will serve with integrity, inclusivity, and unwavering dedication. Together, we can build a fairer Jinja City,” she affirmed during her nomination address.

Ssempebwa Godfrey was cleared to contest for Jinja North MP, vowing to be a strong advocate for the community’s interests and push for improved service delivery.

In the mayoral race, Nsada Simon Muwesi was nominated to contest for Jinja City Mayor, promising transformative leadership based on his previous experience and developmental vision for the city.

Lugada Joseph, Chairperson of the FDC Electoral Commission in Jinja City, revealed that 17 aspirants were nominated across different positions. He acknowledged initial delays due to unavoidable circumstances but confirmed that the process was now running smoothly.

“We are pleased to note that the nomination exercise has been peaceful with no incidents of violence. We appreciate the cooperation of all candidates and supporters,” Lugada said.

Nekesa Annet, FDC Vice Chairperson in Jinja City, applauded the party for upholding democratic values throughout the nomination process.
