Masindi: The State Minister for Public Services, Grace Mary Mugasa, has asked civil servants to embrace teamwork for effective service delivery.

She was presiding over the belated Labor Day celebrations for Masindi district held at Uganda Technical College Kyema on Wednesday.

Minister Mugasa also urged civil servants to desist from stress, saying that it affects effective service delivery.

She also challenged leaders to ensure solving conflicts at workplaces without creating more conflicts. ‘’Leaders should ensure they solve conflicts at workplaces without creating more conflicts.’’

Cosmas Byaruhanga, the Masindi district LCV chairman, commended civil servants for the services they are rendering to Uganda, noting that they’re important for the development of the country.

He, however, challenged the civil servants to create a healthy and safer working environment. Byaruhanga also asked the government to consider raising salaries for civil servants, stressing that some of them, like teachers, have resorted to boda boda riding to increase their income.

‘’Some civil servants, mostly teachers, have resorted to part-timing, mostly in boda boda riding, to increase their household income.’’

Responding to Byaruhanga, Minister Mugasa said that the government is planning to enhance salaries for civil servants and will do so gradually.

Dr. Stephen Opio Okiror, the commissioner human resource at the ministry of Labour challenged the civil servants to always manage conflicts at workplace stressing that all local governments or public offices have conflicts.

He noted that conflict can bring new ideas, stimulate creativity, and help you know who the people you work with are.

Okiror therefore called for teamwork, saying that one can’t work in isolation both in private and public offices and advising civil servants to be collaborative, not compete at the workplace.

International Workers Day 2024, or Labor Day, is commemorated on May 1 annually, and it’s a reminder of the collective power of workers. This year’s theme was the ongoing fight for justice and the importance of building a world where everyone’s contributions are valued and protected.
