Buliisa fisherman killed in bar brawl

Buliisa: Police in Buliisa District are holding a suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 39-year-old fisherman following a bar altercation.
Charles Onyera is accused of stabbing to death a man identified only as Benard, a resident of Kamagongoro village in Walukuba Village, Butiaba Sub County, after a disagreement between the two escalated.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the spokesperson for the Albertine Region Police told this publication on Monday that the altercation occurred while the two were drinking at a local bar.
“It is alleged that the suspect was provoked and verbally abused by the deceased, which led to the violent confrontation,” Hakiza said.
Onyera reportedly stabbed Benard in the back with a knife, killing him instantly.
Hakiza urged members of the public to exercise self-control and seek peaceful means of resolving disputes. “We advise people to manage their anger and avoid resorting to violence,” he said.
The suspect is currently detained at Buliisa Central Police Station as investigations continue.
