SHOCK! Man killed in suspected hammer attack in Hoima

At the time of the incident, his wife was away on a pilgrimage in Kooki-Haibale, and their three children were staying at a friend’s home.

Hoima: Grief and fear have gripped residents of Bwikya Cell in Kinubi, Hoima East Division, after a man was brutally killed in a suspected attack by unknown assailants.

The deceased has been identified as Farouk Mwogezi Mirundi, a mason believed to be in his 30s and originally from Sembabule District.

According to local reports, Mwogezi was attacked and struck multiple times on the head with a hammer, leading to his death.

At the time of the incident, his wife was away on a pilgrimage in Kooki-Haibale, and their three children were staying at a friend’s home.

Some neighbors suspect that Mwogezi may have been attacked elsewhere and his body later dumped in the room he rented in Bwikya Cell. Julius Kasangaki, a resident, said they heard a loud thud around 4:00 PM, which is when they believe the body was brought in.

Sam Bigabwenkya, the Bwikya Cell LC1 Chairperson, condemned the act, noting that the deceased had no known conflicts with anyone in the area.

Hoima East Division Councilor Idi Magezi urged local security teams to ramp up night patrols, citing rising insecurity in the community.

At the crime scene, Hoima East Division Community Liaison Officer Ronald Muhoofa explained that investigations were initially hampered because the scene had been tampered with, preventing the effective use of a police sniffer dog.

However, he assured residents that police are committed to pursuing the perpetrators.

By press time, police were conducting a postmortem examination at the scene to aid their investigations.
