Since its inception, the Bugungu Cultural Gala has continued to grow in scope and popularity.

Buliisa: The Bagungu community is once again preparing to celebrate its rich cultural heritage during the third edition of the Bugungu Cultural Gala, officially dubbed “Kabaari ka Mbinya Za Bugungu.”

The highly anticipated event will take place tomorrow, Friday, June 27, 2025, at the former livestock market grounds in Buliisa Town Council.

Originally scheduled for May 30, 2025, the gala was postponed but is now set to return in full swing.

Addressing the media at Biiso Guest House on Thursday, June 25, 2025, the organizing committee chairperson, Charles Muhambura, confirmed that the event will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m.

Muhambura said the gala will showcase the cultural richness of the Bagungu people through traditional food exhibitions, cultural dances, attire displays, and storytelling.

“This event is envisioned as a peaceful celebration, fostering unity and rekindling pride in Bagungu traditions,” he emphasized.

Attendees will enjoy a full day of cultural showcases, including; staple food displays featuring traditional Bagungu cuisine, cultural dances highlighting local rhythms, music, and attire, traditional dress exhibitions showcasing unique styles of Bagungu wear and riddles and storytelling, offering insight into the humor and wisdom of Bagungu folklore.

Muhambura said the gala aims to both celebrate and promote Bagungu culture among neighboring communities, particularly those employed in the local oil sector, while also educating youth about their roots.

He further assured the public that security would be a top priority, with enhanced measures in place throughout the event.

According to Blasio Tunduru, Events Secretary, the festivities will kick off tonight with a traditional pre-celebration gathering (kasiki).

“This time round, we shall feature the introduction of Ngaabi ku Ngaabi from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., alongside performances from the renowned Kilima and Bugana bands,” he announced.

Tunduru also invited local business operators to take advantage of the occasion by displaying and marketing their products during the event.

Since its inception, the Bugungu Cultural Gala has continued to grow in scope and popularity. The first edition took place on April 2, 2023, followed by the second on April 1, 2024 both held at the same venue in Buliisa Town Council.
