Alur Kingdom, Zombo strengthen partnership for development and peace
“This engagement examined opportunities for better coordination, and we have agreed to strengthen collaboration to fast-track development initiatives across the district,” he said.

Zombo: The Alur Kingdom and Zombo District Local Government have reinforced their partnership aimed at accelerating socio-economic transformation, strengthening peace and security, and improving service delivery for the Alur people.
The Alur Kingdom Prime Minister, Prince Lawrence Opar Angala, last week hosted a high-level delegation from Zombo District led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and Chairperson of the District Security Committee, Festus Ayikobua.
The meeting, held at the Kingdom’s bureau offices in Yamu Trading Centre, Atyak Sub-county, focused on enhancing institutional collaboration between traditional leadership and modern local government structures.
Ayikobua was accompanied by the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Ashraf Ajobe, and other senior district officials.
The visit, initiated at the request of the Kingdom leadership, reviewed the state of service delivery and the implementation of government socio-economic programmes in the district.
Prince Lawrence Opar Angala described the discussions as frank and productive, noting that both parties explored opportunities for deeper coordination on issues of mutual interest.
“This engagement examined opportunities for better coordination, and we have agreed to strengthen collaboration to fast-track development initiatives across the district,” he said.
The meeting also drew participation from the Rwoth of Warr-Offaka Chiefdom and the Ker Alur Coordinator for Alur Djuganda Chiefdom in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rashid Oyaki Jalukungu.
Jalukungu delivered a special message from Rwoth Defeles Okia Songa II, emphasizing the importance of cross-border collaboration to promote peaceful coexistence and effective coordination among Alur communities in Uganda and the DR Congo.
Leaders highlighted the need to bridge divisions among Alur communities created by colonial boundaries established in 1894. They stressed the importance of promoting cultural cohesion and shared development across the districts of Zombo, Nebbi, and Pakwach.
Officials noted that the strengthened partnership, which blends traditional authority with modern administrative systems, is expected to enhance stability, improve crisis response, and accelerate implementation of socio-economic programmes, infrastructure development, and public service delivery.
Prince Angala reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to working closely with Zombo District leadership to promote peace, security, and socio-economic progress.
“We remain committed to working hand-in-hand with district leaders to benefit the Alur people on both sides of the border,” he said.
The Kingdom also commended the Government of Uganda for maintaining peace and stability in the region and pledged continued support in mobilizing its subjects spread across 56 chiefdoms in Uganda and eight in the DR Congo to embrace government programmes.
Both parties expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration will lead to tangible improvements in livelihoods, security, and overall regional development.
