“We have been engaging them as local leaders to resolve their differences, but unfortunately the situation did not improve,” Kizza said.
Kakumiro: Residents of Kyamulinya Cell in Rubazi Ward, Igayaza Town Council, Kakumiro District are in shock following a tragic domestic incident in which a man killed his wife before taking his own life.
The deceased have been identified as Rose Mbabazi, 52, and her husband Baturine Aron, 55, both residents of the area.
According to preliminary information, the couple reportedly developed a domestic misunderstanding during the night, which escalated into violence. The husband is alleged to have fatally attacked his wife using a hand hoe.
Local leaders say the couple had a history of recurring domestic disputes.
Vicent Kizza, the village chairperson, revealed that leaders had previously attempted to mediate between the two on several occasions, but the conflicts persisted.
“We have been engaging them as local leaders to resolve their differences, but unfortunately the situation did not improve,” Kizza said.
Family members condemned the incident and called for peaceful conflict resolution within households.
Emmanuel Natamba, a relative, urged couples to seek dialogue and support when faced with misunderstandings instead of resorting to violence.
Igayaza Town Council district councillor-elect, Emmanuel Arishaba, also known as Mahene, suggested that the suspect may have been under the influence of illicit substances at the time of the incident. He called on security agencies to intensify operations against drug abuse in the area.
Police from Kakumiro District visited the scene, conducted necessary procedures, and later handed over the bodies to relatives for burial.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
