Hoima: The Miss Tourism Bunyoro 2026 contest has officially been launched at the Hoima Buffalo Hotel under the theme “Artificial Intelligence (AI), Culture and Tourism.”
The launch, held on Friday, April 17, 2026, marks the beginning of an initiative aimed at boosting tourism in the Bunyoro sub-region by promoting cultural heritage through modern digital tools.
Speaking at the event, Jane Murungi, the Cluster Coordinator for Miss Tourism Bunyoro, called on young women aged between 18 and 26 to register and participate in the competition.
Murungi noted that this year’s edition will integrate Artificial Intelligence and digital platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok to enhance storytelling, promote tourism, and build personal brands among contestants.
“The search for Miss Tourism Bunyoro is on, and every girl willing to participate in this year’s edition is welcome on board. This year’s theme emphasizes how we can use AI and digital platforms to promote tourism,” she said.
Meanwhile, Umaru Muwonge from the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities encouraged young women in Bunyoro to embrace the opportunity, noting that the competition offers a platform to represent the region in the tourism sector.
He added that participants have the chance to progress to national levels, including Miss Tourism Uganda, and potentially represent Uganda internationally.
Muwonge highlighted some of the region’s key tourism attractions, including Murchison Falls National Park, Bugoma Forest, and Budongo Forest, urging contestants to actively promote these destinations.
“These girls become ambassadors representing their areas of origin. Bunyoro has many tourism potentials, and we encourage them to take part in this contest and promote the region,” he said.
