Police break silence on alleged shooting attempt involving MP Kamuntu and Mukiza

However, no formal complaint or police report has been filed in connection with the claims.

Kampala: Allegations published by Eagle Online claiming that Dr. Chris Mukiza, Executive Director of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), attempted to shoot Rubanda West Member of Parliament Moses Kamuntu have not been substantiated by official records.

The report alleges that the incident occurred during a confrontation at a hotel in Kololo, a suburb of Kampala. However, no formal complaint or police report has been filed in connection with the claims.

Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said no such incident has been reported at any police station within the metropolitan area.

The allegations, which have circulated widely on social media, include claims that Dr. Mukiza was intoxicated and attempted to use a firearm. These assertions remain unverified and have not been independently confirmed.

Observers note that standard security arrangements for senior government officials such as transport by an official driver and protection by trained security personnel may raise questions about the plausibility of the reported scenario. Dr. Mukiza heads the Uganda Bureau of Statistics.

Dr. Mukiza has been widely regarded for his role in public service. By the time of publication, neither he nor his office had issued an official statement addressing the allegations.

The public is advised to treat unverified claims with caution and to rely on credible and official sources as more information becomes available.
