Museveni warns Lango against corruption as he celebrates electoral victory
“Leaders should be specific parish by parish on how many households have benefited, because those who receive support are able to get out of poverty,” he emphasized.
Lango: Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Saturday joined thousands of supporters in Lango Sub-region to celebrate his recent electoral victory, while cautioning leaders and citizens against corruption.
The event, held at Lango College Grounds, attracted a large crowd of supporters of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), marking a moment of appreciation and renewed engagement between the President and the region.
In his address, President Museveni thanked Ugandans for their continued trust in his leadership, attributing the country’s unity to divine guidance.
“I thank God for the unity the people of Uganda have continued to show us. It’s God who has kept us united,” he said.
He also commended the people of Lango for what he described as wise and overwhelming support during the recent general elections.
Turning to government programs, the President urged leaders to ensure that all households benefit from the Parish Development Model (PDM) within the next five years.
“Leaders should be specific parish by parish on how many households have benefited, because those who receive support are able to get out of poverty,” he emphasized.
Museveni further tasked Members of Parliament to monitor the distribution of funds under the Emyooga program, particularly among the youth at constituency level.
He revealed that government plans are underway to distribute free agricultural inputs, including coffee seedlings and fruit plants, to boost household incomes.
“I will use my land in Baralegi and other government land to grow seedlings that can be given to wananchi free of charge,” he said.
The President stressed the importance of peace, stability, and economic transformation, urging citizens to focus on wealth creation and improving livelihoods.
He also issued a strong warning against corruption, particularly in the implementation of government programs.
“Do not tolerate corruption. No one should deduct any money from your PDM funds. There is enough space in Luzira,” he warned, referring to Luzira Prison.
Museveni encouraged residents to embrace hard work, noting that financial empowerment is key to progress.
“I thank the people of Lango for standing with the NRM and supporting our vision of prosperity for all,” he added.
Lira City Woman Member of Parliament and Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, welcomed the President and praised his role in advancing national development.
She cited initiatives such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, and highlighted improvements in service delivery, particularly in healthcare.
“I’m happy to note that specialized services like heart surgery, brain surgery, and dialysis are now being conducted at Lira Regional Referral Hospital,” she said.
The Government Chief Whip, Hamson Obua, also commended the people of Lango for their support of the ruling party.
“We are here to thank God and the people of Lango for the victory in the elections,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of the External Security Organisation, Joseph Ocwet, praised the President for infrastructure development, improvements in education, and enhanced security in the region.
“You have brought prosperity to Lango. The progress in roads, education, and healthcare has exceeded expectations,” he said.
Prior to the celebrations, President Museveni laid a wreath in memory of the late Anthony Ocwet and his wife Carolyn Akullu Ocwet.
The event was attended by ministers, religious and cultural leaders, and other NRM officials.
