Zombo LC1 executive murdered, body dumped in swamp
Authorities suspect he was attacked by unknown gang members while returning from a funeral in Awora, Paidha Sub-County.

Zombo: Local leaders and residents are grappling with grief and outrage following the gruesome murder of Nason Ocokuru, a respected LCI executive member from Coramara Cell, Omua Ward, Paidha Town Council in Zombo district.
Ocokuru’s mutilated body was discovered early on Saturday, April 10, 2025, near Zingili Stream in Macwere Cell.
Authorities suspect he was attacked by unknown gang members while returning from a funeral in Awora, Paidha Sub-County.
According to Tony Oyirwoth, a relative of the deceased, the assailants slit Ocokuru’s throat and inflicted other horrific injuries, indicating a premeditated and savage attack.
Collins Iwutung, the LCI chairperson of Coramara Cell, confirmed the incident and described the killing as “unjustified.”
“He was a pillar in our community—a leader, a listener. His loss is a serious blow. We demand justice,” said Iwutung.
Joyce Kayeny, the female councilor for Omua Ward, condemned the act and urged community members to stay calm and allow the law to take its course.
Police have since visited the bereaved family, documented the crime scene, and transported the body to Paidha Health Center III for a post-mortem. Authorities are actively investigating the case and have appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to arrests.
During a recent tour in the region, SSP Latif Zaake, West Nile Regional Police Commander, urged leaders and residents to work together to combat the rising wave of violent crime, particularly mob-related killings.
According to the 2024 Police Annual Crime Report, Uganda recorded 4,329 homicide cases in 2024, an increase from 4,248 in 2023.
