Woman arrested for attempted murder, genital mutilation of husband

Rehema remains in custody and is expected to face charges related to attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Kamuli: A 60-year-old man is recovering in hospital after he was allegedly attacked by his wife in what police have described as a brutal case of attempted murder and genital mutilation.

The victim, Masanka Richard, a resident of Busoigo Cell, Kasoigo Ward in Kamuli Municipality’s Northern Division, was reportedly attacked late on the night of June 6, 2025, while he was asleep.

According to the Busoga North Regional Police, the suspect, a 40-year-old businesswoman identified only as Rehema, has been arrested in connection with the incident.

ASP Michael Kasadha, the regional police spokesperson, confirmed that the couple had gone to bed at different times that night. At around 11:00 PM, while Masanka was asleep, Rehema allegedly attempted to strangle him and mutilated his genitals severing one of his testicles.

The injured man was initially rushed to Kwagala Medical Centre in Buwenge Mpya before being referred to Kamuli General Hospital for specialized treatment.

ASP Kasadha strongly condemned the act and all forms of domestic violence, urging couples in conflict to seek professional help.

“We remain committed to ensuring such acts are dealt with expeditiously,” he said. “Couples should seek counseling or legal intervention instead of resorting to violence, which only destroys lives and families.”

Police investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing. Rehema remains in custody and is expected to face charges related to attempted murder and aggravated assault.
