WENRECO sponsored athlete excels, represents Uganda in Zanzibar

Arua: The West Nile Rural Electrification Company (WENRECo) has played a pivotal role in nurturing athletic talent in the West Nile region of Uganda.

Their commitment to community initiatives and support for high-quality athletes has yielded remarkable results.

In October 2023, WENRECO actively scouted for athletic talents in West Nile.

The goal was to identify and support promising athletes at both the national and continental levels.

The event held at Mvara Secondary School playground successfully identified 10 talented athletes.

Osuta Dison, a student from Aria Senior Secondary School in Terego district, stood out as the best performer in the 400 meters (under 18 category).

He has been selected to represent Uganda in the East African Athletics Regional Championships in Zanzibar, scheduled for April 26th to 28th, 2024.

Alua Isa Shaban, a delegate of the Uganda Athletics Federation representing West Nile, expressed pride in this achievement.

He emphasized that this accomplishment puts West Nile on the map and highlights the region’s potential in sports.

Shaban thanked WENRECO for their investment in athletes and acknowledged the positive impact of well-managed sports on exposure and employment opportunities.
