Gulu: Police in Gulu city have warned residents over surging cases of rash and negligent acts that have claimed the lives of two juveniles in the course of one week.

The court defines “rash” as doing something that may not be sensible without first thinking of the possible result. It also defines “negligent” as failing to give enough care or attention, especially when this has serious consequences.

David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West police spokesperson, reveals that only in December, two kids were killed as a result of rash and negligence by the adult.

The incident includes the one that happened on December 7, 2023, at Olayoilong Cell in Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu City, an incident of rash and negligent act that caused the death of one Acen Patricia, a female juvenile aged 8 years old resident of the same address.

The case is being investigated under CRB number 777/2023.

According to the police, on December 7, 2023, at around 17:00 p.m., the deceased was playing at their home in the compound together with her fellow friends. She touched a live electric wire used for hanging clothes in the compound of the neighbor.

Anena was electrocuted by electric current and rushed to the Gulu regional referral hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

This electricity has been used at the welding shop belonging to Orach Francis, who is the neighbor.

Another incident involved the death of one Apiyo Nadia female juvenile, aged one. The case was registered under CRB 769/2023.

It was found out that on December 4, 2023, at around 17:30 p.m. from Kirombbe cell, the deceased was knocked by a vehicle registration number UMB 116U Tiguan Volkswagen black in color, which was being driven by one Oringa Jimmy male adult aged 34, a social worker and resident of the same area.

The incident happened at the residential gate, so after knocking on the child, the same vehicle was used to rush the victim to the Lacor hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.

Police have therefore cautioned people to take caution and ensure that anything that may cause loss of life, especially juveniles, should be kept away from children.
