Two cheat death in road accident during way of the cross in Kagadi

Eyewitnesses reported a near-collision involving three vehicles attempting to avoid the worshippers.

Kagadi: Two Christians were seriously injured on Good Friday in Kisankwa Village, Kinyarugonjo Sub-county, Kagadi District, after a speeding vehicle lost control during the Way of the Cross procession.

The incident occurred as faithful from St. Thereza Catholic Parish, Kinyarugonjo, were participating in the solemn Good Friday tradition. The procession had started at Kyeya Catholic Church and was making its way to St. Thereza Parish when the accident happened.

Eyewitnesses reported a near-collision involving three vehicles attempting to avoid the worshippers. A Fuso truck (registration number UAY 729/S) reportedly collided with a Toyota Prado (UBN 978/T), while a Toyota Premio (UAZ 950/D) was also involved.

In an attempt to brake and avoid hitting the crowd, the Fuso truck lost control and rammed into the Prado, seriously injuring two women in the process.

Francis Kyamanywa, the LC1 chairperson of Kisankwa Village, confirmed that the victims were immediately rushed to a nearby health facility for medical attention.

Despite the distressing incident, the Christian faithful continued with the Way of the Cross procession, eventually arriving at St. Thereza Catholic Parish.

By press time, police had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident, but the vehicles involved had been towed to Mabaale Police Station for further investigation.

Elsewhere in Kagadi District, thousands of Christians from both the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches came together in a powerful ecumenical Way of the Cross that lasted from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The spiritual event, which started at St. Luke Parish, wound through Kyengaju Street, Kagadi Market Street, Rest Corner, Nile Depot Main Street, and Kagadi Roundabout before concluding with a final Mass at St. Mary’s Church.

Rev. Fr. Peter Kaberenge of St. Mary’s Vicariate encouraged believers to remain united in faith and to live as true witnesses of the cross symbolizing love, sacrifice, and redemption. Rev. Eric Irumba of St. Luke Parish echoed similar sentiments, calling on Christians to repent and perform righteous deeds to inherit the Kingdom of God.

Students and staff of St. Ambrose Institute of Health Sciences led the day’s procession, demonstrating their commitment to placing God at the center of their lives, especially as future healthcare providers. The school’s patron, Bonny Komugisha, emphasized the importance of spiritual guidance in shaping both academic success and a life of service to humanity.

SP Pellan Busingye, Officer in Charge at Kagadi Central Police Station, also joined the procession, describing the Way of the Cross as spiritually cleansing and a reminder of Jesus’ suffering and sacrifice.

In Buliisa District, Rev. Fr. Joseph Twase of St. Mary Catholic Church, Biiso Parish, urged Christians to embrace the true meaning of Easter fostering peace, love, and personal transformation through faith. He reminded the faithful that Easter is not merely a festive season but a time for deep reflection and recommitment to the values of compassion and selflessness.

Meanwhile, in Masindi District, Fr. Aloysius Byaruhanga of St. Jude Catholic Parish called on believers to renew and transform their faith in Christ.

Speaking during the climax of the Way of the Cross procession, he urged Christians to live in a way that reflects God’s love in their everyday lives.

Sister Judith Abaga encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in Christ’s teachings despite life’s challenges, while young participant Clare Atugonza, a P.7 pupil, shared that taking part in the procession helped her connect with Jesus’ suffering and seek blessings for her upcoming exams.

The Good Friday events, marked with prayers, unity, and reflection, served as a solemn reminder of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and a call to live out the values of love, humility, and redemption.
