Traders lose millions as fire guts Nakawa market

Properties worth millions have been lost in the fire.

Nakawa: Traders operating in Nakawa Market are counting losses after a fire gutted their market.

According to reports, the fire broke out in the wee hours of Monday, May 25, 2024, at around 4 a.m.

Properties worth millions have been lost in the fire.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, said the cause of the fire hasn’t been established.

Owoyesigyire, however, said that though millions of properties have perished, no lives have been lost, adding that the police fire brigade rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.

He cautioned market management and landlords all over the country to always put in place mechanisms like fire extinguishers and sprinklers in case of an emergency.
