Terrible! Six children die in Kisubi house fire

He urges the public to exercise caution and vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Entebbe: Police in Entebbe are investigating a fire outbreak that resulted in the deaths of six children.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, the incident happened on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at around 1 a.m.

A tragic fire outbreak that occurred in Namulanda B, Kisubi, resulted in the loss of six young lives.

Owoyesigyire disclosed that upon receiving a distress call from a community member, the OC of Kisubi Police Station immediately responded.

The fire had engulfed the residence of Bakita Ayang, a South Sudanese national, where six children were trapped. Despite efforts by community members to rescue them, the children, aged between 2 and 16, succumbed to the fire.

The Kisubi Police Station dispatched officers to the scene, along with firefighters from Entebbe Police Division. The fire was eventually extinguished, and the bodies of the children were recovered and taken to the city mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Initial observations suggest that the fire originated from an electric kettle left unattended in the sitting room, connected to a socket. Owoyesigyire, however, asserts that further inquiries will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The scene has been secured, and investigations are ongoing. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased.  Owoyesigyire  urges the public to exercise caution and vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
