TERRIBLE! Kabale man kills biological son over paternity dispute

Police say a manhunt is underway.

Kabale: Police in Kabale District have launched a manhunt for Tumuhereze Maritazari, who is accused of brutally murdering his five-year-old biological son, Turyasingura Remegio, following a domestic dispute over paternity.

The harrowing incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, April 26, 2025, at around 8:00 PM in Kasiru Village, Nyombe Parish, Kahungye Sub-county.

According to police reports, the suspect had earlier in the day engaged in a heated confrontation with his wife, Tumwebaze Agnes, at Kasiru Trading Centre. Maritazari allegedly accused her of infidelity, insisting the child could not be his as he had been away for seven years.

Eyewitnesses told authorities that Maritazari assaulted Agnes twice first at a local bar owned by a man named Rogers, and later at her mother’s residence.

He then proceeded alone to their family home where, in a fit of rage, he reportedly picked up a panga and viciously attacked young Remegio, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.

Officers from Kahungye Police Station quickly opened a murder case. The Kabale homicide team, led by Acting District CID Officer D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, responded to the scene, where they documented the crime and recorded statements from key witnesses. The child’s body was examined at the scene and evidence collected.

As of press time, the suspect remains at large. Police say a manhunt is underway.

“The investigations are ongoing, and all efforts are being made to apprehend the suspect,” said ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson.
