Student commits suicide in dormitory

The body was taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem as investigations continue.

Kabale: Police in Kabale District are investigating a suspected suicide involving a Senior Six student of Solberg College.

The deceased has been identified as Kiconco Nikita, a 21-year-old resident of Rutoma Cell, Nyabikoni Ward. Her body was discovered hanging in a school dormitory on Easter Sunday around 1:00 PM.

According to the school head teacher, Denis Tusiime, most students had left for the Easter holiday, leaving behind about 60, including Kiconco.

On Sunday morning, students attended prayers at Nyabikoni Church of Uganda, leaving behind Kiconco, who had reported feeling unwell and stayed in her dormitory.

Upon their return, students discovered her body and informed the matron, who quickly alerted school authorities and police.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed that a case file of suspected suicide has been opened.
