Security forces recover 17 stolen cattle in Terego

The animals are currently under veterinary inspection to assess their health.

Terego: In a swift early morning operation, security forces in Terego District recovered 17 stolen cattle following a high-speed chase in Suru Village, Nicu Parish, Biliafe Sub-County.

The operation, launched at around 4:00 a.m. after a tip-off from a vigilant resident and the area GISO, disrupted a suspected livestock theft ring targeting the region’s animal husbandry resources.

Security units intercepted a vehicle registration number UBE 665U believed to be transporting stolen cattle toward Arua. When the driver ignored orders to stop, officers fired two warning shots, triggering a pursuit that ended near Osu Bridge, where suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Seven cattle were found inside the vehicle, and a subsequent search led to the discovery of ten more animals abandoned in Suru Village, bringing the total to 17 recovered cattle. The animals are currently under veterinary inspection to assess their health.

The rightful owner has yet to be identified, and investigations are underway to trace the livestock’s origin. The vehicle has been impounded as evidence under case reference SDF 05/12/6/2025, and security forces are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects.

West Nile Police Spokesperson Regional Officer SP Asea Collins praised the operation, stating, “This successful recovery demonstrates our unwavering commitment to combating livestock theft and protecting community animal husbandry resources. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.”

Authorities are calling on the public to provide any information that may assist in the investigation. Further updates will be issued as the case develops.
