Police foil armed robbery at Gaz Fuel Station in Masindi
The injured security guard was rescued, while one of the suspects, identified as Odoma Ronald, 43, was arrested at the scene.
Masindi: Police in Masindi have foiled an attempted armed robbery at Gaz Petro Station in Central Division, Masindi Municipality, arresting one of the suspected attackers.
The incident occurred at about midnight when two armed suspects, travelling on motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, allegedly attacked a security guard deployed at the fuel station.
The suspects are said to have been armed with a pump-action shotgun and a knife and attempted to overpower, disarm and rob the guard.
According to Solomon Mugisa, the Albertine North Regional Community Liaison Officer and Acting Regional Police Spokesperson, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects initially tried to lure the guard into repositioning their motorcycle.
“The suspects first attempted to lure the guard into repositioning their motorcycle, apparently with the intention of attacking him. They subsequently held him at gunpoint, leading to a struggle during which the guard sustained injuries while resisting the attackers,” Mugisa said.
Mugisa said a police patrol team responded swiftly after the incident was reported and intervened, successfully foiling the robbery.

Police recovered a pump-action firearm, a knife and motorcycle registration number UGG 529P, which is suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence.
The second suspect managed to escape and remains at large, with police continuing efforts to trace and apprehend him.
Mugisa said investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Police commended the security guard for his vigilance and bravery in resisting the attackers and praised the officers who responded to the incident.
The police have also urged members of the public, security personnel and business operators to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals, movements or activities to the nearest police station.
