Buliisa: In a bid to prevent foot and mouth disease outbreaks, mostly in areas neighboring Murchison Falls National Park, the Buliisa district veterinary department will vaccinate over 5,000 cows in the district.

This was disclosed by Dr. Rashid Mubiru, the Buliisa District veterinary officer, while speaking to ugreports.co.ug on Friday morning.

Dr. Mubiru noted that this will boost and prevent animals near the park from getting foot and mouth disease (FMD) during this dry season.

The veterinary officer said the vaccination exercise, which will be free of charge, will be taken either late this month or early next month in the parishes of Bugana, Kigoya, and Kabolwa.

He asked farmers to regularly check on their animals to be able to identify them in case the disease broke up.

Midway through last year, the Buliisa District Veterinary Department vaccinated more than 15000 heads of cattle against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

The vaccination exercise followed an outbreak of the disease in the district.
