Opposition calls for unity as PFF party is launched in Bunyoro
“We should elect our flag bearers by consensus instead of going for primaries because they are costly and they divide us,” he said.

Hoima: The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) officially launched its presence in the Bunyoro sub-region with a strong call for unity among opposition members.
Speaking at the launch event held at the party offices in Hoima City on Friday, Roland Mugume Kaginda, the PFF Vice President for Western Region, emphasized the importance of solidarity within the party ranks.
“We shouldn’t divide or fight ourselves. Let us cooperate and unite for the betterment of our country,” he urged attendees.
Mugume noted that internal conflicts often weaken the opposition and called for consensus in selecting party flag bearers to avoid costly and divisive primaries. “We should elect our flag bearers by consensus instead of going for primaries because they are costly and they divide us,” he said.
Asinasi Nyakato, Hoima City Woman MP and a prominent PFF leader, explained that the party emerged as a breakaway from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), citing FDC’s alleged cooperation with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) as a major reason for the split.
Nyakato reaffirmed PFF’s commitment to pushing for better public services in areas like health, education, and market stability issues she said transcend political affiliation.
‘’Whether in opposition or ruling government we shall face the same challenges such as price inflation, poor health service delivery among others, but if we unite, we can overcome this,’’ she said.
Aziz Kalyegira, the Hoima District General Secretary, assured attendees that PFF is fully registered with the Electoral Commission. He encouraged aspirants to pick up nomination forms and prepare to contest on the party’s ticket.
Meanwhile, Zubairi Atalyebwa, PFF Chairperson for Masindi District, rallied local support, urging the people of Masindi and greater Bunyoro to embrace the party’s vision and efforts for socio-economic development.
Augustus Bigirwenkya, a hopeful for the Chairperson seat of Central Division, also extended an olive branch to former FDC members feeling politically displaced. “I want to assure you that we shall support each other, and those at the crossroads, mostly in the FDC party, should join us for the struggle,” he said.
The launch brought together PFF members and supporters from across the Bunyoro sub-region, marking what party leaders described as a renewed chapter for opposition politics focused on unity, service delivery, and grassroots mobilization.
