Nebbi: Mr. Ogwokpacu Uvon Jacky, 59, a peasant farmer and resident of Gosi village, Pajur parish, Erussi Sub County in Nebbi district, was killed and his body dumped in the river on allegations of practicing witchcraft.

It’s alleged that sometime back, the deceased was chased away from Gosi village on the allegation of practicing witchcraft and went to another village, leaving some household items in his previous semi-permanent house.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Region Police Spokesperson, told this publication on Wednesday that when the deceased went back to his former home on the 21st of this month to collect his remaining household items, he found two people demolishing his previous house by removing iron sheets.

‘’The deceased made an alarm to attract public attention; instead, two men jumped down from the roof, joined by three others who were hiding in the nearby bush, started chasing the deceased, caught him at the river Alala, and brutally killed him with multiple cuts on the head, hands, back fingers, and neck,’’ she said, stressing that thereafter they threw his body in the river and went into hiding.

Angucia said they rushed to the scene of the crime when they got the information, examined, documented it, recorded statements from relevant witnesses, retrieved the body from the water, and conveyed it to Nebbi General Hospital for a postmortem.

The regional police mouthpiece told www.ugreports.com that no arrest has been made at the moment, but the particulars of the suspects are known.

Angucia said they have opened a murder case file and it is being investigated under Nebbi CRB 718/2023. The police officer urged the general public not to take the law into their own hands but to cooperate with the police in tracing and bringing the suspects to face the law.
