Kakumiro: Police in Kakumiro district are investigating circumstances under which Fred Munezero, a resident of Kakaye village in Makoma Parish, murdered his biological son Joshua Hakizimana, 13, a pupil of Kyakaregura Primary School in Kasambya.

Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police Spokesperson, explained that this incident occurred on Wednesday when a yet-to-be identified businessman came to demand beans at Munezero’s home.

It’s alleged that some weeks ago, this businessman gave 20,000 shillings to the deceased, since the boy purported that the father had sent him to get 20,000 shillings and would in return give him beans.

Hakiza narrated that on the fateful day, the businessman came demanding the beans, and Munezero, upon hearing this, decided to hit his son with a hammer to death.

‘’The businessman came yesterday demanding his 20,000 shillings; upon getting the information, Munezero unleashed his anger and started hitting the son with a hammer on the head, killing him instantly,’’ he explained.

The regional police mouthpiece revealed that the community, upon discovering it, started beating Munezero and the police that rescued him, adding that the suspect is currently detained at Kakumiro Central Police Station to answer charges of murder.

He advised parents not to always make decisions out of anger. ‘’It’s very bad to make a decision when they have anger; parents should get other means of solving such issues,’’ he advised.

He advised the parents to have enough time to talk to their children, adding that children are juvenile offenders according to the law and need counseling.
