MP Asiimwe calls for teamwork as PLU distributes Muhoozi endorsement books in Masindi
“As NRM, we are not fighting PLU. We are setting the foundation for a peaceful power transition from President Yoweri Museveni to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” Asiimwe said.
Masindi: Dr. Florence Asiimwe, the Masindi District Woman Member of Parliament has called for teamwork and cooperation among members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) as the group prepares to collect signatures endorsing Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2031 presidential election.
Asiimwe, who is also the interim PLU coordinator for Masindi District, made the remarks on Wednesday while distributing endorsement books to PLU coordinators from sub-counties and divisions at Kolping Hotel in Masindi town.
She said the initiative should not be viewed as a fight against the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), arguing that PLU members are laying a foundation for what she described as a peaceful transition of power.
“As NRM, we are not fighting PLU. We are setting the foundation for a peaceful power transition from President Yoweri Museveni to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba,” Asiimwe said.
Asiimwe said President Museveni would eventually retire and argued that preparations for a transition should begin early.
“One day President Museveni will retire, and we are planning for a peaceful power transition. We are not imposing Muhoozi on the people,” she said.
She further argued that Uganda needs an army officer to lead the country and described Gen. Muhoozi as suitable to succeed his father.
Asiimwe urged PLU coordinators to clearly distinguish between the PLU and NRM while mobilising signatures to avoid confusing members of the public.
“Do not confuse the public between PLU and NRM. We are preparing for a peaceful transition; we are not fighting NRM,” she told the coordinators.
According to Asiimwe, the Masindi PLU team has received 18 endorsement books corresponding to the number of sub-counties and divisions in the district.
She said each sub-county and division will receive an endorsement book to facilitate the signature mobilisation exercise.
David Kyetume Kasanga, the Secretary of the organising committee for the launch of the Muhoozi PLU signature mobilisation exercise in Masindi, said the campaign will officially be launched on October 7, 2026, at Masindi Booma Grounds.
Kasanga said organisers expect more than 4,000 people to attend the launch.
“The exercise will be launched on October 7 at Masindi Booma Grounds. We expect more than 4,000 people, and there will be free food and drinks,” Kasanga said.
He added that the organisers have budgeted about UGX 80 million for the launch and mobilisation activities.
Kasanga said the organisers are targeting more than 100,000 signatures from Masindi Municipality and the wider district in support of Muhoozi’s endorsement.
